DIPLOMA IN PHYTOTHERAPY
(Professional Extension for Health Care Practitioners)
The Diploma in Phytotherapy (Dip. Phyto.) is specifically designed to provide already qualified health care practitioners with an adequate professional knowledge of herbal medicine to be used as a secondary or adjunctive clinical modality in their current practice or business. In the past, the Course has proved useful to professionals such as medical practitioners, pharmacists and registered nurses.
This course is available at any time by distance and consists of audio tapes and lecture material of 13 seminar days that were presented in the last face-to-face presentation of the Course.

Course Outline
Fundamentals of Herbal Medicine - Seminar 1 – (2 day lecture)
Covers the scientific explanation of why and how herbs work. It includes a study of herbal constituents and active principles and a survey of herbal preparations, such as extracts and tinctures.
Also covers the importance and establishment of herbal medicine dosage and provides an introduction to Herbal Energetics (Ayurveda).

Herbal Medicine for the Digestive System - Seminar 2
Provides treatment protocols for various GIT disorders, such as, peptic ulcers, reflux conditions, irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis, gall bladder disease and inflammatory bowel syndrome.
Herbal Medicine for Dermatological Conditions - Seminar 3
Indicates topical and oral herbal medicine treatment protocols for various skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and acne.
Herbal Medicine for the Respiratory Condition - Seminar 4
Indicates the treatment protocols for upper and lower respiratory disorders such as cough conditions, bronchitis, asthma, rhinitis and sinusitis.
Herbal Medicine for the Immune System - Seminar 5
Provides treatment protocols for such conditions as chronic fatigue syndrome, cold and influenza and auto-immune conditions.
Herbal Medicine for the Urinary and Male Reproductive Systems - Seminar 6
Provides treatment protocols for such conditions as chronic urinary infections, prostate enlargement, impotency.
Herbal Medicine for the Female Reproductive System - Seminar 7
Provides treatment protocols for such conditions as functional infertility, endometriosis, dysmenorrhoea and more.
Herbal Medicine for the Nervous System - Seminar 8
Provides treatment protocols for such conditions as anxiety, depression, insomnia, headaches and more.
Herbal Medicine for the Cardiovascular System - Seminar 9
Provides treatment protocols for such conditions as essential hypertension, cardiac insufficiency, circulatory disturbances and others.
Herbal Medicine for the Muscular Skeletal System - Seminar 10
Provides treatment protocols for such conditions as gout and rheumatism.
Herbal Toxicology & Drug Interaction - Seminar 11 (2 day lecture)
Indicates precautions to be taken when administering herbal medicine, particularly to patients on conventional medications.
Tuition fees
The cost of each unit is $187 (which includes postage & handling of tapes and lecture material but excludes any text books that may be considered desirable) if the Course is undertaken on a seminar by seminar basis. The total cost of the 13 Seminar units is therefore $2431. However, if enrolment in all units is made at commencement of the Course, the total fee is reduced to $2200.
